So... I had a learning experience this past weekend. I parked my car (at 2am) in Kendra's underground "secure" parking garage. At 10:30am the next morning, I went to hop into the car, and noticed that all my glove box stuff was sitting on the passenger seat.. no, wait, all the glove box stuff MINUS my radar detector, the mp3 player (and chargers etc), car manuals and insurance cards... they were missing
I was somewhat in shock of what was going on? Naturally, I walked around to passenger side of the car... there was no damage. I looked over the entire car, I couldn't find any visible damage. Pros! Why were Pros trying to get into my car for a measly mp3 player. I own a Jetta!!!!
How did they get in? It took me about an hour to figure out they jammed some sort of object into the lock mechanism of the car and forced it open. I personally don't think the alarm went off, but I wasn't around to listen.
I called the insurance company, and basically for the stuff stolen, I can't get much (too high a deductable & CDs in cars are not covered). The locking mechanism is only about $200, so again, no help. Fun stuff.
It actually could have been worse. I did take out "most" of the valuables (like my digital camera, laptop, etc), plus I actually took my passport out of the car, which was lucky, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get back into the States, and they could have done a lot more damage to the car around slashing leather seats, busting windows, keying the car.
Apparently the Vancouver Police thought it was because I had US plates (looked touristy). Vancouver is apparently #3 in North America for car break-in's. he suggested leaving everything (glove box, ashtray etc) open and empty when I park in Vancouver ... anywhere. Seems reasonable... what a pain in the butt.
So that's what happened ... now I'm dealing with the reprocusions but I'm still confusedas to why they would take all this stuff (manuals and all) but leave all Kendra's make-up?
