Yes, I have a dog, but I also have 4 fish (I used to have 8, but some sort of parasite got the other 4 before I could stomp it!). Although I don't really have the fish tank for the fish. Sure, my catfish is pretty sweet looking (black and white) and my angel fish is very bold looking, but for me, it's not about the fish.
Have you seen a fish tank with life plants in it? Like a really well maintained fish tank with nice plants? WOW!!!! Do plants ever look really cool in that super bright light. I have a blue background, red rocks, and bright green plants, what a colour contrast. As a photographer, the tank is very well colour balanced.
That was until the cyanobacteria set in. Some consider it a type of algae, but I was corrected by my friend Janet. This stuff was plastering itself to my plant leaves and sucking the life right out of them!
I just spent the past 3 hours up to my elbows in my fish tank removing all the plant peices that have that black cover on them. I think it turned out to be about three quarters of my plants! UGH! My tank looks pretty barren now (which admittedly make it easy to find the fish), and I just hope the plants are able to recover from what I did to them today. I hope so, they were beautiful.
I know that algae is a plant, but it's not one I care to grow in my tank. Cyanobacteria is something I aim to kill in my tank.
