Why I hate Halloween

Today is Halloween, my least favourite special day in all 365 (366 in a leap year, yep, Februrary 29th is better than October 31st! By a long shot). This year I think I successfully boycotted the whole event. Sure, I dressed up, but it was for a 70's birthday party 2 weeks prior. Tonight ... This past weekend ... I did nothing, and I'm proud of it!

Ok, so you're probably wondering why I'm passing up my opportunity to be someone else, pretend that I'm a super hero for the day, or a goblin or even a cool guy for once....

Well, let's see what there is to like about this special day..

Let's see, there is always the bumper to bumper traffic starting at the office and moving (barely) all the way to my home. I remember two years ago, when Halloween fell on a weekday like this year, looking out the window of the office building only to see people backed up into the parking lots. Yeah, like that's a lot of fun...

How about the fattening chocolate and other candy. Comon folks, I already have a sweet tooth, it's hard enough not to eat all the junk, let alone having a bucket of it in everyones office...

Handing out Candy. So if you're lucky enough to get home before the nuclear winter of 2010, you get to do the stair master as you walk up and down stairs of your home with chocolate. I mean, comon, it's really only fun for the little kids. You know, the Princesses, or Spidermans. Those little guys are cute. Plus they have parents with them. Parents make sure they are safe, and most importantly, make sure they are in line! Then come the big kids. Costumes get less creative, and they don't take any time, it's grab and run!

Speaking of parents, where are they with the big kids? around 8:30pm, the big kids come flying by. Heaven forbid you leave your pumpkin outside. I didn't get a photo of my poor little pumpkin in the middle of the street in 15 peices, so I had to steal one off the web, but still, it's sad.

Finally, you can't really take the night away from the home, because whatever party you attend, you're bound to be called out as the idiot who put no thought into their custume. That's one horrible thing about living out here, you spend $50 on a costume, and it's lame because everyone else spends $200. Like have I have $200 to drop on a single party.

This year, I had enough, I'm no longer participating in Halloween or Halloween type events. I gotta say, except for the annoyance of the doorbell that dies down around 10pm, it's a great feeling.

I'm all ready for Thanks Giving, or even Christmas. Let's get on with the good holiday's of too much turkey, presents and good cheer. Put the goblins and ghooles away...
