Let me step back and tell you exactly how close this deer is. The deer is at the very end of the yard; as in my yard is 35 feet long, this deer is 36 feet away. I'm talking directly on the other side of the chicken wire fence that keeps Chico in the yard.
Chico was shocked!! His stance widened and he looked up at me, not knowing what to make of this humungous animal (keep in mind that any size deer is humungous to a 7.3 lb dog).
Well, like any male dog (nutered or not), this was his territory, and damn it if he was going to let a deer take over it. Off he goes, barking like he's a Doberman or a Great Dane. Before he makes it more than 5 or 6 feet, the deer takes one bound, you can only see it's tail, another bound, you can only hear it, another bound .... and gone!
Chico growled for the next three minutes, making it clear to all those around that indeed he had conquered the overly-sized scary looking deer
... bewarned.
